Ultrasound and Scanning

An ultrasound also referred to as a sonogram, is a test that involves the use of high-frequency sound
waves to generate a multi-dimensional image of a specific internal part of the body. It’s a common
medical procedure performed to monitor a developing foetus, diagnose a condition or damaged tissue or
aids a surgeon while undertaking certain medical procedures.

Radiologists and sonographers at the London Harley Street International Polyclinic are well specialised
in undertaking these procedures to ensure that the analysis and diagnosis are expertly carried out and
interpreted in conformity with the required medical standards.

Our Ultrasound Clinic

At our ultrasound centre in central London, patients get value from our clinic offers, swift reports, and
results that are directly sent to the consultant radiologist. With only a positive pregnancy test, one might not know how the pregnancy is progressing. Early pregnancy scans will help you plan and make an informed decision about your pregnancy journey. An early ultrasound will help the doctor:

— Estimate your due date
— View the position of the placenta
— Have a clear view of the size, position, motion, breathing and heart rate of the fetus
— Your physician can see the amount of amniotic fluid in the uterus
— Observe if it’s a single or multiple pregnancies
— We also use an ultrasound scan to screen for several congenital disabilities

What to Expect

Most ultrasound analyses take approximately 10 to 20 minutes. We have two ways through which we
conduct the ultrasound test during pregnancy, vaginal and abdominal ultrasound. While some people tend to be frightened about the idea of any vaginal examination, a vaginal ultrasound is nothing from which you shy away . When undertaking the vaginal ultrasound, our physicians will conduct it straightforwardly and make you feel like your regular vaginal exam. An ultrasound wand is placed into your vagina, and you’ll only feel some slight pressure which isn’t painful.

Our abdominal ultrasound is rather simple. During this procedure, our physicians will make you comfortable on the examination table to the required position where the image can easily be generated. After that, a little clear water-based gel is applied to your skin to facilitate contact. While pressing a wand against the skin, the physician keeps moving over the area of interest to generate images of the internal body parts required. This procedure is painless and not to be nervous. You won’t feel anything apart from the sensor and gel on your skin.

No doubt, most expectant women are usually anxious to see their unborn babies in more depth and find out the gender. For this reason, we have put in place amazing appointment times for 3d and 4d ultrasound scans and a gender scan to give them that magical feeling of catching a glimpse and any finer detail of their unborn babies for purposes of creating a memento with the ultrasound image. We may also recommend 4d baby scans if we spot any developmental problems or suspected anomalies of the foetus like spinal cord issues or cleft lip and prescribe appropriate fetal medicine using results from 4d scans ultrasound scans.

Ultrasound Consultations

You can consult our team of radiologists and initiate one or more ultrasounds in our private scanning clinic for women in the heart of London’s private healthcare district in order to determine if the foetus is developing as it should be, the pregnancy is situated within the uterus, detect a heartbeat and determine the gestational age of the foetus.
